Ohio Valley Conference's head track and field coaches voted with Southeast Missouri and Murray State each picking up two postseason awards. Redhawk teammates Miles Smith and Brandon Colbert have been named Male Track Athlete of the Year and Male Field Athlete of the Year, respectively. Murray State's Shameka Dial was awarded Female Field Athlete of the Year while Katelyn Jones was named Female Freshman of the Year. The 2007 OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year and Championship MVP, Tennessee State's Dominique Ward-Holmes was named as this season's Female Track Athlete of the Year. Eastern Illinois' Joe Noonan was picked as Male Freshman of the Year. Smith has posted the only automatic qualifying time in the Conference for the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships with his 400-meter time of 46.13. The time is tied for best in the nation for the event. Miles, who hails from St. Louis, Mo., picked up three 2008 OVC Male Athlete of the Week awards, the most by an OVC competitor this season. Fellow Redhawk teammate, sophomore Brandon Colbert, holds the top spots on the OVC Best List in both the shot put and weight throw. He recently broke the Southeast Missouri school-record for shot put, the throw also qualified him provisionally for the Indoor NCAA Championships. Colbert was selected twice as 2008 OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week. Murray native Shameka Dial ranks first on the OVC Best List in weight throw and fourth in the shot put. She has broken the Racer team record in the weight throw multiple times this season. Dial will be looking to capture her first Conference title after a runner-up finish in the weight throw at the 2007 championships. Murray State's freshman Katelyn Jones has the Conference's top time in the 3,000-meter and the second fastest time in the mile. She was named OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 5. Jones will attempt to win her first OVC title this weekend but will face stiff competition as most of the top finishers from the distance events at the 2007 Championship return. Tennessee State's Dominique Ward-Holmes is a two-time OVC champion in the 400-meter and also will look to defend her 2007 200-meter title at this year's OVC Championships. If Ward-Holmes were to win the 400-meter this season, she would join Eastern Kentucky's Charmine Byer (1985-88) and Southeast Missouri's Heather Keltner (1998-2000) as the only three-time champions in the event. EIU freshmen Joe Noonan has had a very successful season and holds the top spot on the OVC Best List in pole vault. His best vault of the season (15'11.25") is the eighth best performance in EIU school history.
