Women's Golf Team Fires Best Final Round Total and Finishes Tied for Third at First OVC Championship
LONDON, Ky. - The Morehead State women's golf team fired the best final round total of the eight teams at the Ohio Valley Conference championship at Crooked Creek Golf Community, and the Eagles climbed two spots to finish their first-ever conference tournament in a tie for third place. Murray State, which finished with an 88-over-par total, led from wire-to-wire in the event and won the team title over second place Jacksonville State by eight strokes. The Eagles and Tennessee Tech were both at 103-over par for the tournament. Eastern Illinois was fifth, followed by Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee State. EIU's Carrie Riordan had a three-day total of 230 to win individual medalist honors.
Freshman Ema Jonsson led the Eagles and the entire field on Saturday with a four-over-par 76 and finished the tournament tied in 11th place overall on the par-72, 6,020-yard course. Sophomore Paige Lausier was not far behind with a 77 final round tally and a 13th place tournament finish.
Junior Darlene Bognot fired a 79 on Saturday and came in 18th place. Sophomore Lynn Grunkemeyer carded a 82 in the final 18-hole round and wound up tied for 26th place among the players. Freshman Sara Jackson's final round score and tournament total was disqualified.

Women's Golf Remains Tied for Fifth at OVC Championship
LONDON, Ky. - The Morehead State women's golf team found the going tough on a windy day at Crooked Creek Golf Course. The Eagles totaled a 333 team scorecard on Friday at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship but ramined in a tie for fifth place with Eastern Illinois. Freshman Emma Jonsson topped the Eagles on Friday with a 77, while sophomore Paige Lausier fired an 82.
Junior Darlene Bognot turned in a 86, followed by an 88 from sophomore Lynn Grunkemeyer. Freshman Sara Jackson carded a 90.
Murray State held onto its lead in the tournament with one more 18-hole round left to play on Saturday. The Eagles will tee off Saturday with players from Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky.

- Women's Golf in Fifth Place at OVC Championship
Morehead State, competing in its first OVC championships since re-establishing the program last year, was paired up with Tennessee State, and the Eagle players were among the first off the championship tees this morning.
Junior Darlene Bognot was MSU's top scorer on day one, firing a 78 and sitting in a tie for seventh individually. Jackson was next with a 79 and is tied for 11th. Sophomores Lynn Grunkemeyer and Lausier had 81 and 82 scorecards, respectively. Grunkemeyer is in 19th place, while Lausier is in 24th. Freshman Emma Jonsson will look to rebound Friday after an 87 in the first round.
The Eagles' scorecard totaled up to a 320 on opening day, and MSU is only one stroke behind four-time defending tournament champion Jacksonville State. Murray State finished with a 312, and MSU could be within reach of that with a good second day total. The second through eighth place teams are all within eight strokes of each other.
Eastern Illinois's Carrie Riordan is the individual leader after round one with a two-over-par 74.
Lausier was named on the All-OVC Second-Team after a season that saw her garner two of the league's weekly Female Golfer of the Wek honors. She ranked eighth among all league players in stroke average.
Jackson earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team. She ranked among league leaders in stroke average and ranked second in average on the team only behind Lausier.
Rounds two and three are on Friday and Saturday, with the winning team earning a spot in an NCAA women's golf regional tournament.

- Women's Golf Team Ready for First OVC Championship
Play begins on Wednesday, April 22 with practice rounds, and then the team will play 18-hole rounds on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to determine the leagyue champion and the automatic bid to an NCAA regional. The five Eagle players in the lineup will be among the first players to tee off Thursday as MSU is paired up alongside the Tennessee State lineup with 8 a.m. through 8:40 a.m. tee times.
Jacksonville State will be gunning for its fifth straight team title at the event. Only Murray State has won more titles than the Gamecocks, winning six from 1997-99 and 2002-04.
Sophomore Paige Lausier has been the Eagles top player in 2008-09, winning two OVC Female Golfers of the Week this spring.

- MSU Golfer Paige Lausier Honored Again by the OVC
Lausier was one of five individuals tied for third place overall after a 79-72-79-230 tournament scorecard at the Eastern Kentucky Spring Invitational.
Her third place showing was her highest finish ever for an event as an MSU student-athlete. She was also named female Golfer of the Week on March 25.
The women's golf team's next action is at the OVC Championship April 23-25 in London, Ky.

- Paige Lausier Finishes Third at EKU Spring Invitational
Lausier was one of five individuals tied for third place overall after a 79-72-79-230 tournament scorecard.
As a team the Eagles had a 323-306-319-948 total but were the second best Ohio Valley Conference School in the field only behind fifth place Murray State.
Toledo won the event, winning by seven strokes over first day leader Central Arkansas. The teams played 36 holes on Saturday and finished with an 18-hole round on Sunday. Georgia Hunt of Toledo was the individual medalist with a 75-74-74-223 total. She defeated Eastern Michigan's Stephany Fleet in a playoff.
Freshman Sara Jackson was MSU's next finisher, tying for 30th with a 79-75-84-238. Lynn Grunkemeyer was tied for 47th with a scorecard reading 82-80-80-242, and junior Ashley Redmond tied for 55th with a 85-79-80-244. Freshman Emma Jonsson rounded out MSU's lineup with an 83-85-80-248 in 65th place.
Junior Darlene Bognot played as an individual and was the second best player among the 12 athletes playing for themselves. She had an 81-78-78-237 and tied for 26th place overall on the leaderboard.
Morehead State will now turn its attention toward the OVC Championship which is scheduled for April 23-25 at the Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Ky.

- Women's Golf In Sixth at EKU Spring Invitational; Lausier in Third Place Among All Players
Lausier fired a 79 in the opening round but rebounded to shoot an even par 72 in the second 18-hole round. She is only three strokes behind individual leader Stephany Fleet of Eastern Michigan.
As a team, the Eagles had a 323 in the first round and then carded a 306 in the second round, which was the second lowest team score only behind Eastern Michigan. Central Arkansas is the leading team heading into Sunday's final round with a 33-over-par 609. The Eagles had 14 birdies in the first two rounds which is second among the 18 teams.
Freshman Sara Jackson is also in reach of all-tournament honors as she carded a 79-75 - 154 for 11th place. Jackson led all players with five birdies and also leads the field in par five scoring average. Lynn Grunkemeyer scored a 82-80 -- 162 for a tie for 51st place so far, while junior Ashley Redmond sits in a deadlock for 61st with a 85-79 -- 164. Freshman Emma Jonsson rounded out MSU's lineup with a 83-85 -- 168.
Junior Darlene Bognot is playing as an individual and is in 31st place right now with a 81-78 -- 159.
