Cross Country Teams Fare Well at Greater Louisville Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. ---Morehead State men's and women's cross county teams were among more than 50 colleges and universities from 14 states to compete in the 6th annual Greater Louisville Classic (GLC) Saturday, Sept. 29th. The event was one of the strongest fields in the history of college cross country in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The field included 18 men's teams and 11 women's teams that are currently or have been ranked in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Div- I Regional, NCAA Div. III National and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Cross Country polls this season. "We competed against some very good runners and teams. Ron Duncan had an outstanding race and Kim Reiland ran her best time of the year. I was happy with the way we raced today," MSU head coach Dan Lindsey said. On the men's side, MSU finished 18th out of 36 teams in the 8K Gold event. The University of Louisville won the event with the Rend Lake College placing second. Rounding out the top five teams were Eastern Kentucky, University of Tennessee and the University of Kentucky. The Eagles top finished was Duncan, who placed 34th in a time of 24:51.66. Duncan's time was only 10 seconds off the MSU school record. Rounding out the Eagles were: J.D. Schrader (103) in 25:47.20; Steve Thieme (106) in 25:48.54; Ryan Hudson (129) in 26:05.77; Josh Wakeman (131) in 26:06.19; James Bowen (213) in 27:01.41; Victor McHenry (221) in 27:08.10; Brain Knight (237) in 27:21.52; Mike Settles (286) in 29:14.01; and Chris Smith (298) in 29:47.48.
The women's squad finished 20th out of 28 teams in the 5K Gold race. The University of Kentucky won the event with the University of Louisville placing second. Rounding out the top five teams were Georgia Tech, Eastern Kentucky and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Kim Reiland, who ran her personal best of the season, was the top finisher for the women as she finished 43rd in a time of 18:35.87. Rounding out the Eagles were: Jessica Reyes (66) in 18:57.97; Karen Lageman (164) in 20:12.51; Sara May (173) in 20:25.45; Anne Beck (185) in 20:40.50; Amber Webb (188) in 20:42.48; Alexis King (189) in 20:44.51. "The girls ran well today. I was pleased with everyone's effort. We are better than this time last year, which hopefully will pay off at conference," said MSU coach Jason Brown.
Morehead State will take a week off from competition before returning to action on Oct. 13 at the Pre-Nationals at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in Terre Haute, Ind., site of the 2007 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Cross Country Teams Set for Greater Louisville Classic

Last year, the Classic hosted 65 colleges and universities from 15 states and brought together some of the top college cross country programs in the nation. More than 1,200 athletes competed to mark the largest collegiate cross country meet ever contested in Kentucky. In the men's "Gold Run" 8K event, Morehead State finished 19th. As a team, the Lady Eagles finished 24th in the 5K race. Both men's and women's cross country teams finished third in the Samford Invitational on Friday, Sept. 21. The Eagle top finisher on the men's side was Ron Duncan, coming in fourth with a time of 26:52.08. MSU's Jessica Reyes finished eighth in the women's 5K race with a time of 19:58.08. The men will run at 9:30 a.m. while the women will start at 10:15 a.m.

- Cross Country Teams To Compete At Samford Invite Tonight
The event is a preview meet for the Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championships that will also be held at Spain Park and hosted by the Bulldogs. Six teams from across the south including OVC competitors MSU, Eastern Kentucky, UT Martin, Tennessee State along with Campbellsville and Lee University will compete The event begins Friday afternoon at 4:45 p.m. with the men's 8K run, followed by the women's 5K run at 5:15 p.m. Last time out (Sept. 1), both teams finished fifth the University of Dayton Meijer Flyer 5K. On the women's side, Jessica Reyes was the top finisher as she placed ninth in a time of 19:00. For the men's team, Ron Duncan was the top runner as he placed 13th (15:51).

- Cross Country Teams Looking for Positive Results At This Weekend's OVC Championships
"Our team is as prepared for the OVC championships as we have been for any meet this year," said MSU Cross Country coach Dan Lindsey. "Our men are running well after a nice performance at the pre-national meet and have a good chance to finish in the top four teams in the conference. The women's team has steadily improved their times all season and we expect an outstanding effort at the championship meet. Ron Duncan and Kim Reiland both have a solid chance to land an All-OVC spots."
Last time out, MSU ran in the 2006 Pre-Nationals hosted by Indiana State University on Saturday, Oct. 14. Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles finished 12th in the open division.

The Eastern Illinois' men's squad and the Samford's women's team will be defending their respective titles on Saturday.
Austin Peay State University will play host to the championships, which will be held at the Southern Industry Redevelopment Company Course, beginning with the women's 5,000-meter race at 10:00 a.m. (CST) and followed by the men's 8,000-meter competition at 11:00 a.m. (CST).

- Eagle Harriers Both Take 12th in Open Division at Pre-Nationals
A record number of teams entered in the Pre-Nationals as it is run on the same course used for the 2006 NCAA Championships in November.
For the Eagles, in the men's 8000 meter open, Ron Duncan was the top runner as he finished in 25:34. That placed him 20th in the open division and 63rd overall.
The rest of the Eagles and their times were: Ryan Hudson 26:15; Matt Dotson 26:46; Alex Hagan 26:48; Steve Thieme 26:58; Victor McHenry 27:33; and Brian Knight 29:25.
In the women's 6,000 meter open division, the top runner for MSU was Kim Reiland, who finished 27th in the event and 86th overall in a time of 22:45.1.
The rest of the Lady Eagles and times were: Jessica Reyes 23:19; Aubrey Walker 23:39; Sara May 24:25; Anne Beck 25:17; Alexis King 25:48 and Alex Hunley 26:20.
Next action for the men's and women's squads will be the Ohio Valley Conference Championship at Austin Peay State University on Saturday, Oct. 28.

- Cross Country Teams Fare Well at Greater Louisville Classic
Freshman Ron Duncan and Matt Dotson were the Eagles' top finishers. Duncan ran a time of 25:46.89 for 62nd place while Dotson finished 25:48.66 for 64th place. Other Eagles runners were: Ryan Hudson (26:07.93); Josh Wakeman (26:55.02); Vic McHenry (27:00.65); Alex Hagen (27:05.32); Steve Thieme (27:14.00); and Brian Knight (29:04.83). On the women's side, junior Kim Reiland was the Lady Eagles top runner as she finished 63rd in a time of 19:07.16 in the "Gold Run" 5K. Other runners were: Jessica Reyes (19:22.41); Aubrey Walker (19:29.75); Sara May (20:27.32); Alexis King (21:12.26); Alex Hunley (21:24.75); Taria Daughtery (21:39.48); and Annie Beck (21:46.62). Next up for both teams will be on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they compete in the Indiana State Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

- Cross Country Teams Set for Greater Louisville Classic; Field is Largest Ever
To accommodate the number of teams entered, the event will feature two men's races and two women's races. Overall, more than 1,200 athletes are expected to compete at this weekend's race, which will also serve as a preview event for the NCAA Southeast Regional scheduled for Nov. 11.
"We are still a little less then full strength as Alex Hagen is having some leg problems and we have decided to redshirt freshman JD Shrader, both of whom we thought would be major contributors at the start of the season," said Lindsey.
"On the women's side we are showing some signs of really coming together nicely as Jessica Reyes has had an outstanding week in training. The meet is loaded with top teams as there are over 50 teams scheduled to compete.
Last time out, both the men's and women's squads finished fourth during the 25th annual Western Kentucky University's Old Timers Classic.
Results from all four races at the 2006 Greater Louisville Classic will be available at http://www.alltraxtiming.homestead.com/glxc.html following the completion of the meet on Saturday.
