Thirteen Offensive Newcomers Join Eagle Football Program

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State football program has added 13 players on offense for the 2016 season. The newcomers include three linemen, three wide receivers, two running backs, two slot receivers, two tight ends and one quarterback.
 
The list of defensive and special team players will be released later this week.
 
"The offensive class is loaded with guys who are a perfect fit for our scheme," head coach Rob Tenyer said. "I feel we have skill and big-skill players who are physically ready to line up and play. Toughness, speed, and versatility highlight this group."
 
The Eagles have six home games among the 11-game schedule for 2016. MSU hosts Lincoln (Pa.) (Sept. 17) for the home opener and Family Weekend and entertains Marist (Oct. 15) for Homecoming.
 
Below is the list of offensive additions.
 
Clay Bolin (QB, 6-0, 190, Lexington, Ky., Bourbon County HS)
Played for head coach John Hodge at Bourbon County High School … Passed for 3,002 yards and 23 touchdowns as a senior in 2015 … Holds every passing record at BCHS … Led the stats in passing yards per game in 2015 … Named to the Louisville Courier-Journal All-State Team as a senior … His older brother Kyle, is a quarterback who started seven games at Louisville in 2015.
 
Kaleb Cook (OL, 6-4, 240, Kendallville, Ind., East Noble HS)
Played for head coach Luke Amstutz … Named Second-Team All-Northeast Indiana as a senior in 2015 … Also named Second-Team All-Northeast 8 in 2015 … Led East Noble to a conference title as a senior … Sister Maddison is a collegiate volleyball athlete at Trine University (Ind.).
 
Jalen Elliott (WR, 6-2, 175, Waldorf, Md., Westlake HS)
Played for head coach Tony Zaccarelli … Hauled in 31 passes for 596 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior … Named Second-Team All-SWAC ... Also crowned state champion for 3A/2A on the track.
 
Dalton Frasure (TE, 6-3, 230, Prestonsburg, Ky., Prestonsburg HS)
Was the 2015 District Player of the Year for head coach John Derossett at Prestonsburg High School … Rushed for 4,489 career yards and 66 touchdowns … Rushed for 1,614 yards as a junior and had 1,430 yards as a senior … Had 1,162 career receiving yards and scored 14 touchdowns in the aerial game … Played on defense as a junior and senior and amassed 119 total tackles … Four-time all-district and all-region selection … Named all-state three times … Named to the 2016 Class of the Commonwealth Team … Helped PHS win two regional titles.
 
Kyle Gilbert (SLOT, 5-9, 175, Hendersonville, Tenn., Davidson Academy)
Played for head coach Jonathan Quinn at Davidson Academy … Was an accomplished kicker and quarterback … Passed for nearly 3,000 yards in his final two seasons … Had 46 receptions for 670 yards and seven scores as a junior … Passed for 2,021 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior … Also rushed for nearly 500 career yards … Made 12 field goals his final two seasons, averaged more than 35 yards per punt and was 84-of-87 on PATs in career … Blocked three kicks on special teams … He was the district special teams Player of the Year as a junior in 2014 … Named all-region as a kicker freshman season and all-region as QB/kicker sophomore season … Helped his team to the playoffs starting as an eighth grader all the way through senior season.

Logan Holbrook (RB, 5-6, 180, Taylorsville, Ky., Spencer County HS)
Played for head coach Mike Marksbury at Spencer County … Rushed for a school-record 4,685 career yards and scored a school career-record 78 times on the ground in his career … Helped SCHS to a 10-2 record, best in program history, in 2015 … As a senior, was the District 4A Player of the Year as a well as First-Team All-Louisville Metro … Named First-Team All-State as a senior and Honorable Mention All-State as a junior … Four-time First-Team Academic All-State … Named to the Commonwealth and Bluegrass All-Star Teams
 
Landon Hurst (SLOT, 5-10, 200, Frankfort, Ky., Franklin County HS)
Was named all-city all four seasons playing for head coach Chris Tracey as Franklin County … Named all-district as a sophomore, junior and senior … Also a four-time academic all-state selection … Helped FCHS to a 12-1 record as a freshman and 11-2 mark as a sophomore … Team never lost a home game with Hurst as a member … Crowned city champions all four seasons.
 
Dalton Jones (WR, 6-2, 185, Louisville, Ky., Trinity HS)
Played for head coach Bob Beatty at Trinity … Hauled in 39 catches for 608 yards and nine touchdowns his senior campaign in 2015 … Averaged 15.6 yards per catch as a senior … Helped Trinity win the 6A state title his junior season in 2014 … Named Most Valuable Receiver as a junior.
 
Ryan Mix (OL, 6-2, 285, Versailles, Ky., Woodford County HS)
Played for head coach Dennis Johnson … Was part of an offensive line unit that set school's single-game rushing record with 327 his junior year … Helped offensive line allow zero sacks his senior season … His father Charles participated in the sport of crew at Purdue.
 
Cody Knuutila (OL, 6-3, 250, Bruceton, Tenn., Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central HS)
Played for head coach Jamie Williams … Named an All-Region 6-1A lineman in 2015 … Is the first player at his school to sign with a Division I program since 2003.
 
Jacob Orona (TE, 6-5, 220, Oxford, Ohio, Talawanda HS)
Played for head coach J.D. Vonderheide … Nabbed 21 catches for 343 yards and seven touchdowns his senior year in 2015 … Also returned a kick for a score his senior year … Named First-Team All-City for the Cincinnati area in 2015 … Helped his team to the state playoffs as a junior.
 
Brett Slusher (WR, 6-2, 195, Ft. Mitchell, Ky., Beechwood HS)
The all-time receiving leader at Beechwood High School playing for head coach Noel Rash … Amassed nearly 2,000 career receiving yards and scored 28 touchdowns … Also made nearly 300 career tackles and recovered eight fumbles final three seasons … Had 1,150 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns as a senior in 2015 … Was the 2015 Northern Kentucky Player of the Year … 2014 Northern Kentucky Defensive Player of the Year … District 1A Player of the Year as a senior … Lexington Herald-Leader and Louisville Courier-Journal First-Team All-State in 2015 … Winner of the 2016 "That's My Boy" Award by the National Football Foundation … Helped BHS to state runner-up status in 2015 .. Has an athletic family as brother Branden played baseball at Northern Kentucky, other brother Brady played football at Eastern Kentucky and grandfather played baseball and football at Michigan.
 
Jaylyn Williams (RB, 5-10, 194, Whitesburg, Ky., Letcher County HS)
Played for head coach Mike Holcomb at Letcher County … Rushed for 1,736 yards in just games … Averaged 248 rushing yards per game … Named District Player of the Year in 2015 … An all-state pick as a senior in 2015.
