Chicago, Ill.—Morehead State Tennis continued its successful stretch of matches today in the River Forest College Invitational as the junior tandem of
Ritchie Kruunenberg and
Gabriel Ruiz paired up to win the Flight A Doubles Championship with an 8-3 victory over Xavier.
The pair swept their way through Flight A during the two-day period with victories over Northern Illinois 6-5, DePaul 6-3, and finishing up today against Xavier. Kruunenberg's day wasn't done as he continued with singles play late into the afternoon, winning in two sets 6-3 and 6-0 over Xavier junior Jeremy Schnieder. He will continue singles play Sunday at 11 a.m. against South Dakota State senior Lorvo Curcija.
Fellow Eagles were action in Flight B, as sophomore Sebastian Penaloza won in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 over Xavier freshman Arthur Stefani. He will continue his singles run Sunday at 11 a.m. against Western Michigan freshman Matej Svjetlicic. MSU senior
Nick Mercer saw his day end losing in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 to SDSU freshman Emerson Styles. In doubles, Penaloza and Mercer lost 8-5 to the University of Illinois-Chicago.
In Flight C singles competition, MSU senior
Enrique Samudio fell 7-6, 6-2 to WMU senior Andrew Kahn, and senior
Garrett Mandrell lost 6-2, 6-0 to UIC senior Max Cederkall. In Flight C doubles play, Samudio and Mandrell were defeated 8-6 by the University of Detroit.
