CHICAGO, Ill.—Morehead State Tennis starts it's fall campaign for the third straight year in Chicago, Ill. with the River Forest Collegiate Invitational.
Â
"We're very excited to be invited back to the River Forest Collegiate Invitational," said head coach
Kevin Fulton. "The draw is fantastic and there are teams that haven't been here before, such as DePaul and South Dakota State. We're looking forward to seeing our veterans and the improvement they've made since the summer."
Â
Two of those veterans are juniors
Ritchie Kruunenberg and
Gabriel Ruiz, who will participate in the Flight A Singles Tournament and be paired together in Flight A Doubles. Kruunenberg was named First Team All-Ohio Valley Conference last year, as he finished 18-12 in singles and 12-8 in doubles. He left his mark finishing 7-2 in the conference, along with a victory over the 2013-14 OVC player of the year, Belmont's Mauricio Antun. Ruiz is coming off back-to-back campaigns where he saw success in doubles competition, finishing his sophomore year 13-11 and his freshman season 7-5.
Â
Throughout the River Forest Collegiate Invitational, other Eagles will see action. In Flight B, senior
Nick Mercer and sophomore
Sabastian Penaloza will compete in singles. While in Flight C, seniors
Enrique Samudio and Garret Mandrell will also compete in singles competition.
