MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Erika Stratton, who was the volunteer assistant for Morehead State softball in 2015, has been promoted to an assistant coach. Stratton will now be involved with a variety of duties, including recruiting and scouting. She will continue to coach the catchers and assist with the pitchers.
"Erika added a lot to our coaching staff in 2015 and is very deserving of this promotion," Head Coach David Williams said. "Having Erika as we move forward will certainly benefit our program from a continuity standpoint. She has a strong work ethic and will continue to help us in a variety of ways."
Stratton helped Morehead State to its third consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Tournament appearance in 2015. The Eagles finished 22-24 overall, 11-11 in league play and 10-6 at home.
"I want to thank David (Williams) for this wonderful opportunity," Stratton said. "I am looking forward to being a small part of Morehead State softball moving forward. This place has become a really good fit for me. I love the city, university, student-athletes I get to work with and overall atmosphere."
From 2011-14, Stratton tallied 14 home runs and 68 RBI in 193 games at Mid-American Conference school Bowling Green. The catcher tied for first on the team with a .378 on-base percentage as a senior. She also collected a career-high six roundtrippers and seven doubles in 2014.
Stratton earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Bowling Green in 2014. She traveled to the Netherlands the summer after graduation to play for DSS in a professional league called Softbal Hoofdklasse.
A Las Vegas native, Stratton began her prep career at Basic High School and finished at Palo Verde where she graduated with honors. She was named First-Team All-Conference and Second-Team All-State as a senior.
"When I finished my playing career, I wasn't sure the coaching business was for me," Stratton added. "But my interest has grown significantly over the past year. I have a love and passion for the game and want to stay involved in it. We have a great group of players coming back for the 2016 season in addition to some very talented newcomers. I am looking forward to seeing how well we can do."
