MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Sophomore center fielder Kayla McGuffey went 5-for-7 to lead the Morehead State softball team in a doubleheader split with Eastern Illinois on Monday afternoon at University Field.  MSU posted a 4-3 win in game one, but EIU responded with an 8-2 victory in game two.

The Eagles, who have won five of their last eight games, move to 9-13 overall, 1-3 in Ohio Valley Conference action and 3-3 at home.  The Panthers are now 8-15 overall, 3-4 in league play and 3-9 on the road.  The twinbill was originally slated for Saturday, but moved due to field conditions.

Morehead State rallied from a 3-0 deficit in game one with three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth.  Junior first baseman Dana Hutchins tied the contest by blasting a three-run homer, while senior third baseman Katie Raile provided the game-winning RBI on a single in MSU's final at-bat.

McGuffey tallied infield singles in the third and fifth.  She scored ahead of Hutchins on the long ball.

Freshman right-hander Mackenzie Grossmann, who improved to 5-4 with the victory, needed just 99 pitches for her 10th complete game of the season.  She allowed no walks, just one earned run and scattered six hits while striking out three.  The hurler retired the first eight batters she faced.

Freshman right-hander Michelle Rogers fell to 3-6 with the loss.  She yielded four earned runs and nine hits in six innings while walking two and striking out one.  No Eastern Illinois batter managed more than one hit, run or RBI in the opener.  EIU's final two runs scored on an MSU error.

The Panthers climbed out of a 2-0 hole in game two with three runs in the sixth and five more in the seventh.  Eastern Illinois collected 11 hits and took advantage of five walks.

EIU senior shortstop Bailey O'Dell clobbered a three-run homer in the seventh, while sophomore third baseman Hannah Rachor went 3-for-4 with three RBI.  Morehead State freshman second baseman Hannah Murphy launched her first collegiate roundtripper -- a two-run shot -- in the fourth.

Freshman right-hander Jessica Wireman improved to 4-8 with the complete-game victory in the nightcap.  She overcame six walks and scattered five hits while allowing just two runs.

Senior right-hander Tanna Seuferer, who earned all 21 outs in two pitching stints, fell to 4-4 with the game-two defeat.  She yielded three walks, four earned runs and nine hits.  Wireman fanned three in her 115 pitches, while Seuferer struck out a career-best nine on her way to 116 pitches.

McGuffey registered an infield single in the third, plus outfield base knocks in the fifth and seventh.

MSU wraps up its eight-game homestand on Wednesday when Southern Conference opponent East Tennessee State visits for a 2 p.m. ET doubleheader.  For more information and future schedule changes, visit MSUEagles.com, Twitter.com/MSUAthletics and Facebook.com/MSUEagles.
