Rifle inks four signees for 2016-17 season

MOREHEAD, Ky.—Sarah Fink, Jesse Moyer, Alexa Potts, and Karly Potts have signed National Letters of Intent with the Morehead State rifle program.  All four student-athletes will be freshmen during the 2016-17 school year.

"I am proud to announce these four new members of Eagle Rifle," said Head Coach Alan Joseph. "It is difficult to write separate statements about each because they are all competent, experienced and leaders on their high school rifle teams, in school and their communities. It is unique that they all come to Morehead State from Pennsylvania. I look forward to their arrival in August."

Fink is from Hollsopple, Pa, and attends Commonwealth Connections Academy. She has been shooting for eight years and has won 24 team and individual NRA sectional medals. Since 2012, Fink has been on the NRA's President's-100 four times, competed in the Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs, Colo., twice and the USA Shooting Nationals at Fort Benning, Ga., three times. In 2015, she placed third in her category (J1) for both air and smallbore at her state junior olympics.

She was second place in the J1 air rifle category at the Palmyra Invitational and third in the United States for the NRA 4-Position Sectional. Currently her high scores are 578 in air rifle and 573 in smallbore. Fink is also a certified NRA Level One rifle coach and currently assists in coaching the Conemaugh Township High School rifle team. She will compete with the North Star High School (Pa.) rifle team this season. She is also a member of the Jerome Sportsmen's Junior Rifle Team.

Along with rifle, Sarah was honored by the Johnstown Sportsmen's Association for her community involvement. She volunteers with local and state politics, hunter education courses and is Commonwealth Connections Academy's National Honors Society Vice President for the 2015-2016 year.

Moyer is member of the North Star High School Rifle Team and the Jerome Sportsmen's Junior Rifle Team in her hometown of Hollsopple, Pa. Notable shooting accomplishments for Moyer include a second-place team and 10th place individual finish at the Pennsylvania State Competition in smallbore. She set a high school shooting record and competed at USA Nationals at Fort Benning in 2015.

Moyer is simultaneously satisfying high school and college course requirements through a dual enrollment program with the Allegany College of Maryland. Moyer's cumulative grade point average is 4.2.

Alexa Potts is a native of Palmyra, Pa., and attends Ephrata High School. She began competing with the high school air rifle prone league during her freshman year of high school. She was team captain of her school's rifle team her sophomore year and placed seventh at the league's invitational match. Later in the same year, she began training at Palmyra Sportsman's Association.

She has competed in the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) three-position Air Rifle National Championships in 2014 and 2015 and also competed in the USA Shooting National Championships at Fort Benning in 2015.
