MOREHEAD, Ky. – Sarah Jones, who spent six seasons as a student-athlete and graduate assistant at Villanova, has joined the Morehead State women's basketball staff as an assistant coach.
Jones most recently served as a graduate assistant at her alma mater. She will assist in all aspects of the program and have a primary role and teaching and further developing MSU's offensive system.
"Late last summer and throughout the fall, I was fortunate enough to go visit with the women's basketball staff at Villanova while trying to enhance and improve our program through shared ideas," Head Coach Tom Hodges said. "During that time I was introduced to Sarah and her involvement and expertise within their program. As soon as I met her, I filed her name away as a potential candidate for the future, so Sarah was one of the first places we looked when it became apparent we needed an assistant coach."
Jones appeared in 88 games for the Wildcats and was a co-captain her senior season in 2011-12. She scored more than 200 points and shot 73 percent at the free throw line.
"Sarah played and coached under one of the true legends in women's college basketball, Harry Peretta, and has gained priceless experience working with their program over the last six years," Hodges said. "She brings a skill set that is unique and valuable to our current roster and our recruits, by being able to explain and enhance our offensive system from the top down."
A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Jones was a two-sport star at Central High School. She led her basketball squad to three Public League titles and was a second-team all-state pick in 2007. She also played on a trio of Public League championship softball teams. Her father, Curtiss, played college football at Howard University.
"Sarah's personality is top notch with a natural disposition that will lend itself to a lot of success on the recruiting trail and with our players," Hodges said.
Jones graduated from Villanova in 2011 with her bachelor's degree. She joins Mark Kost as the newest members of the staff.
"I am confident that we have made Morehead State women's basketball better with these hires, and these two will be vital in our progression as we move forward," Hodges added. "We had an overwhelming response and a tremendous applicant pool that allowed us to be diligent and find the perfect fit for our program. I feel like we have done exactly that with Mark and Sarah."
