MOREHEAD, Ky. – After finishing 1-2 at the Seahawk Clash in Wilmington, N.C., last weekend, the Morehead State softball team will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete at the Holiday Inn Buccaneer Challenge.
On Saturday, the 2-5 Eagles will take on Bowling Green (3-2) at noon ET and East Tennessee State (6-6) at 2 p.m. Sunday’s games feature the same competition with the BGSU contest starting at 11 a.m., and ETSU at 3 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• MSU went 1-2 last weekend at the Seahawk Clash in Wilmington, N.C. with a victory over Maryland-Baltimore County and losses to Gardner-Webb and UMBC in the rematch.
• Senior Amber Riddle hammered her 29th career home run in the 7-1 victory over UMBC on Feb. 23 to bring her one closer to the career mark of 30. She also holds the career walks record (86), and has five RBI on the young season, which moves her career total to 106. The total is good enough for second all-time, only trailing Rebecca Butler (132).
• Four Eagles hit above .400 in last weekend’s contests. Senior Elizabeth Wagner (.556) led MSU, while fellow seniors Adrena Anderson (.500), Amber Riddle (.429) and Kayla Ashbrook (.417) also fell into that category.
• MSU was narrowly outhit, 27-23, last weekend, but has the slight edge over all opponents this season, 52-50.
• Junior Kelcey McMurray made two appearances in the circle at the Seahawk Clash and registered a 1.00 ERA. She picked up the save in the win over UMBC.
• Senior pitcher Katie Pfost leads the Eagles in appearances this season. In six appearances, she posts a 2-2 record with a 3.12 earned run average, which includes a pair of complete games.
• The Eagles are 0-2-1 all-time against Bowling Green, which includes a 6-3 loss in 2012, and 3-5 against East Tennessee State, which includes a 7-5 victory in 2011.
