ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- The Morehead State baseball team rode a fine pitching performance by freshman right-hander
Aaron Goe to a 4-3 victory against UNC Asheville Friday at Greenwood Park.
Goe tossed six innings, fanning six and allowing three runs, two of which were earned, en route to his second Eagle win.
MSU allowed the Bulldogs to plate the first run of game in the first inning. Designated hitter Billy Creighton hit an RBI double off the right-field wall to score second baseman Jordan Lurie from first.
Trailing 1-0 going into the second inning, the Eagles knotted things up after third baseman
Andrew Deeds reached on a single to left and came home on an RBI triple to center off the bat of freshman first baseman
Kane Sweeney.
UNC Asheville starter Ryan Dull silenced the Eagle bats, not surrendering another MSU hit until the sixth frame. Dull pitched seven strong innings for the Bulldogs, striking out nine and allowing four runs in the loss.

Luke Bainer recorded consecutive one-out base knocks to bring Deeds to the plate. Deeds sent the first pitch he saw from Dull over the left-field wall to put the Eagles on top 4-2.
Deeds finished the game with two hits, a single, his sixth inning round-tripper and three RBI.
A two-base error in the seventh inning allowed the Bulldogs to trim the Eagle lead to one.
Reliever
Morgan Cirbo got the call in the seventh with MSU on top 4-3. Cirbo pitched 1.2 innings and recorded one punch-out. He allowed the Eagles to escape the seventh stranding a Bulldog runner at third, after fanning pinch hitter Grant Gajdosz.
Closer
Matt Duncan put a bow on the one-run Eagle victory in the ninth inning. After recording a groundout, Lurie reached on a fielding error at first base. He stole second and two walks loaded the bases. Duncan induced a fly out to centerfield to end the game earning his third save of the season.
The Eagles return to the diamond on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET in game two of the series.
