MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s tennis team capped off three matches in three days with a 7-0 defeat of the University of Charleston at the MSU Indoor Courts Monday.
The Eagles won their third consecutive contest, improving to 4-3 on the season, while Charleston fell in its first match of the season.
“What a way to finish three matches in three days,” said Head Coach
Kevin Fulton. “I was really kind of worried about how we would come out mentally. I knew physically we were going to be okay. I felt like we struggled a little bit in doubles, but about halfway through the first round of singles, I really felt like everybody stepped up. I’m extremely proud of Nathan Martin not letting some mental fatigue keep him from winning a winnable match. I look forward to getting back on the practice courts and getting ready for conference.”
MSU won at all three doubles courts with identical 8-5 scores at number one and two, along with an 8-6 win on court three.
Sophomore
Seve Day was the first Eagle to post a singles win, earning a 6-2, 6-2 decision at number three, followed by freshman
Kevin Deligny with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number one. Senior
Justin Harlow clinched the match for the Eagles with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at number three.
Senior
Roger White tallied a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five, while classmate
Nathan Blum cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 score at number six. Junior
Nathan Martin battled to a 6-4, 7-6 (6) success at number four to round out the MSU lineup.
Morehead State will take a week off before facing Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the MSU Indoor Courts.
