BOX SCORE (PDF)

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Morehead State men’s tennis team continued its winning ways, posting a 6-1 win over Bellarmine University at the MSU Indoor Courts on Sunday.  MSU moves to 3-3 on the season, while Bellarmine drops to 1-2.

“It was a big effort today up and down the line up,” said Head Coach Kevin Fulton.  “I really felt good about the doubles.  We switched up our line up to put a little pressure on all three spots.  We felt really comfortable with all three doubles teams out there.  This is a pretty solid team that Bellarmine has, and I felt like we kind of handled them pretty easily.”

After sweeping the doubles point for the second consecutive match, sophomore David Clifford and freshman Kevin Deligny set the tone in singles play, with each winning in straight sets.  Clifford scored a 6-3, 6-2 win at number one , while Deligny posted a 6-2, 6-2 decision at number three.

Sophomore Seve Day scored a 6-0, 6-3 win at number four, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 victory by senior Nathan Martin at number five.  Sophomore Hugo Almonte rounded out the Eagle lineup with a 6-0, 6-4 decision at number six.

Senior Justin Harlow was the lone player to fall, dropping a three-set match at number two to Bellarmine’s Jacob Knagenhjem, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

“We had a little bit of a tough time with Justin’s court, but I feel he’s turning the corner,” continued Fulton.  “He’s starting to play smarter tennis, and I think that if we can get that into him we’ve got a really good chance of going a long way in the Ohio Valley Conference.”

Morehead State next competes in a Monday afternoon match, facing the University of Charleston at 3 p.m. in the MSU Indoor Courts.
