MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Jackson State defeated the Morehead State baseball team 16-0 Saturday at Allen Field. Outfielder Charles Epperson hit two home runs and drove in five runs in the Tiger win.

JSU’s starter, sophomore Jose Garcia, struck out 10 Eagles and scattered seven hits in a complete game shutout.

The Eagles (3-4) fell behind early in game three, with senior right-handed starter Josh Schneider on the hill. The Tigers took advantage of two runs in the second inning and took an early 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by catcher Jose Cruz.

MSU threatened in the third, loading the bases with no outs, but Garcia struck out the side.

Epperson launched his first home run in the third inning helping the Tigers (3-3) extend their lead to 4-0, and added a three-run bomb in the fifth. The Eagle bullpen was ineffective, allowing a run in the seventh and eight in the ninth.

Schneider took the loss in his second Eagle start this season. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits.
Senior third baseman Andrew Deeds went 3-for-4 at the plate for MSU.

The Eagles will wrap the four-game set with JSU at Allen Field Sunday at 1 p.m.
