MSU Gridders Hit the Field; Ballard Ecstatic About First Practice

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Morehead State football team hit the turf at Jacobs Field/Jayne Stadium for first time this Fall Tuesday night. With temperatures rapidly cooling as the night went on, the Eagles' three-hour opening practice was excellent according to head coach Matt Ballard.

The Eagles worked out in shorts, jerseys and helmets for the first practice and worked on installing several offensive components. The defense and offensive line units focused on techniques, and MSU also had several special teams' drills.

The Eagles will practice each night this week, adding shoulder pads on Thursday and donning the full gear for the first time on Saturday night.

Morehead State opens the 2011 season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. in Jayne Stadium against Kentucky Christian.
