Eagle Quartet Named Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Four Morehead State student-athletes have been named to the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars list by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.

Linda Dixon (women's basketball), Desmond Cox and Dominique Goodwin (football) and Marisa Kamelgarn (women's golf) were honored this year.

The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar awards recognize minority undergraduate students who have made achieving both academically and athletically a winning combination. To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must be an intercollegiate athlete, maintain a minimum 3.2 grade-point average and be active on their campus and in their community.

Dixon, MSU's defensive stopper for the women's basketball team in 2010-11, carries a 3.3 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in paralegal studies. Cox, the leading rusher for the 2010 MSU football squad, is a sports management major with a 3.4 GPA. Kamelgarn was an all-conference golfer who led the Eagles to their first OVC championship and has a 3.8 GPA in biology. Goodwin, a freshman football player in 2010, carries a 3.2 GPA in early elementary education.
