Raymond, Lewis, Bachman Earn Preseason All-America Honors

MOREHEAD, Ky.—Three Morehead State football players were named to the 2011 Consensus Draft Services Preseason FCS All-American Teams. Senior defensive end Jerome Raymond and senior linebacker Tony Bachman were named to the second team defense and junior quarterback Zach Lewis was named honorable mention offense.

Raymond, a Lawrenceville, Ga., native, led the Eagles with 19.5 tackles for loss for 188 yards last season. One of MSU’s defensive leaders, he also recorded a team-best 11.5 sacks. Raymond led the defense with three fumble recoveries, one of which he returned for a touchdown, and had 59 total tackles.

Bachman led the team in solo tackles with 41, while forcing two fumbles. He was awarded Pioneer Football Player of the Week honors following a strong performance against Campbell. He recored 19 tackles in the victory over the Camels and recovered a fumble.

Lewis started all 11 games at quarterback for the Eagles, completing 260 of 423 attempts for a 61.5 percent completion percentage. He had an efficiency rating of 124.6, passing for 2898 yards and 15 touchdowns. Lewis nearly broke the school record for passing yardage with 27-of-41 for 458 yards and four touchdowns against St. Francis (Pa). He was shy of the single game record by one yard.

Morehead State opens the 2011 season on Thursday, Sept. 1 at home against Kentucky Christian at 7 p.m.
