MOREHEAD, Ky. – Eagle men’s tennis captured its second win of the season as they downed Chicago State 5-2 in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at the Wellness Center.
The Eagles are now 2-4 on the year after having played their past five matches in the last five days.
“We are definitely going in the right direction it has been a tough stretch of games and we are coming together as a team,” said coach Kevin Fulton. “We are looking forward to next weekend and the challenges that will be ahead of us.”
The Eagles took an early lead winning two of three in doubles. The Eagles won in the two spot when Roger White and Nathan Martin took down Dave Regus and Michael Chew 8-0 in dominating fashion. In the three spot MSU earned a victory by default which gave MSU the 1-0 advantage. In the one position Bradley Bryan and Lovell Medcalf fell 8-5 to Ankit Chopra and Armaan Choudhary in a back and forth match.
MSU dominated in singles action winning four of the six matches. The Eagles got wins at numbers 3-6 to solidify the victory on the day. In the three spot David Clifford won handily in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 and at number four Chris Shafik also won big 6-0, 6-0. Martin won 1-0 as his competitor withdrew and Chase Kindred earned a victory in the sixth spot by default. The Eagles did suffer losses at the one and two positions when Justin Harlow was beat 7-6(6), 7-6(7) in a very tight match to Chopra and Nathan Blum was upended 6-1, 6-3 by Choudhary at number two.
The Eagles will return to the court Saturday Feb. 12 as they host Georgetown College (Ky.).
