MOREHEAD, Ky.—Morehead State men’s basketball junior
Ty Proffitt has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team.
As a member of the All-District First Team, Proffitt is automatically placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America honors. The award, which recognizes both academic and athletic prowess is selected by members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Proffitt, a finance major, represents the men’s basketball team on MSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, and he is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business fraternity. Along with his teammates, Proffitt has participated in MS Walk, Heart Walk, has helped with local trash clean-up efforts, and volunteers his time for clothing and food shelters.
A 6-4 guard from London, Ky., Proffitt averages 7.7 points and has 41 assists to just 29 turnovers this season. A transfer from Notre Dame, he has started each game this season for the Eagles and he scored a career-high 15 points against Tennessee State last week. He has scored in double digits seven times this season and he has dished out three or more assists seven times this year, including a career-high eight assists at SIU Edwardsville.
Morehead State is 15-8 this season and 7-4 in Ohio Valley Conference play. The Eagles play at OVC foe Jacksonville State Thursday night with tip-off at 8:45 p.m. Eastern.
