Eagle Soccer Hosts Wright State for Home Opener

MOREHEAD, Ky. –
The Morehead State soccer team will host Wright State in its home opener this Sunday Sept. 5 at Jayne Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. Since 1998 the Eagles are 6-6 in home openers, but have won five of their last six.

MSU (1-3-0) comes into the game splitting a pair of games against Mid-American Conference foes Toledo and Akron. Last Friday the Eagles were defeated 6-2 by Toledo, but bounced back strong in a 3-1 win over Akron. Senior forward Erin Adams netted two goals in the first ten minutes of the match, and freshman Holly Tilley scored her first career goal in the 57th minute following a Sarah Phillip corner kick. Adams leads the Eagles in points (7), goals (3), shots (9) and game winners (1) so far this season. Senior goalkeeper Lily Meisner has notched 24 saves in just four games. MSU has had 11 different players attempt a shot, and 15 different players play in all four matches.

The Wright State Raiders (1-2-0) come into the match having defeated Middle Tennessee last Friday 2-1. The Raiders took an early 2-0 lead on goals from Brittany Persaud and Morgan Butler. The Raiders’ first two games were losses to Central Michigan, 1-0, and Illinois, 3-1. Wright State has scored three goals and has fired 20 shots in three games this season. The Raiders have seven kicks from the corner and have 29 fouls. Goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy has played all 270 minutes in goal and has notched 20 saves. Butler and Persaud lead the team in shots (5), points (2) and goals (1). Wright State is coached by Pat Ferguson, who is in his 6th season at the helm.

After this weekend's action the Eagles will travel to Boiling Springs, N.C., to compete in the Border Classic. The Eagles kick-off their first game on Friday Sept. 10 versus USC-Upstate at 5 p.m. MSU then plays tournament host Gardner-Webb on Sunday Sept. 12 at 3 p.m.
