TOLEDO, Ohio –

The Rockets started the scoring in the 10th minute when Erin Flynn beat Eagle goalkeeper Lily Meisner. In the 28th minute Brittany Hensler put a goal in the back of the net as the Rockets jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Rockets snuck in two more goals in the ensuing eight minutes, socring in the 35th and 37th minute.

Morehead State had chances early in the match, in the seventh minute freshman Lindsey Oettle launched a ball that hit the post and Jillian Birchmeier had her shot blocked.

The Eagles and the Rockets played it even in the second half as they traded goals throughout the period. Alyssa Nacke  scored her first career goal on an assist by Erin Adams in the 46th minute. Then Toledo’s Hensler scored her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute. In the 56th minute Devan Jordan took a pass from Birchmeier and fired a shot past Toledo goalkeeper Vicki Traven and Molly Cantwell finished the scoring for the Rockets in the 88th minute as she scored off a cross by Sarah Blake.

Toledo outshot Morehead State 19-11 and had eight corner kicks to MSU’s three.  Meisner finished with two saves and Katie Blevins made one save in relief action.

MSU head coach Warren Lipka speaks about his team’s first half performance and their second half improvements.

“We just haven’t found a combo in the middle that works yet. Losing [[Lindsay] Stefanini, [Bethany] Davidson and {lauren] Seebach to graduation was a greater loss than we anticipated. Their leadership and composure hasn’t been replaced yet,” said Lipka. “We made adjustments in the second half and did much better, but it was too little to late. We are working to find the right mix and we will put this one in the books and work to get better.”

The loss drops the Eagles’ record to 0-3-0 on the season. Toledo improves to 2-1-0. Morehead State travels to Akron on Sunday to battle the Zips at Lee Jackson Field kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
