MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State Director of Athletics Brian Hutchinson has announced a contract extension for volleyball coach Jaime Gordon. The extension for the Eagle head mentor will run through the 2014 season.

“Coach Gordon has shown tremendous leadership qualities with our volleyball program in the last seven years. His teams have been successful athletically, academically, and in the community. He has been able to generate a great deal of support in our fan base and financially for the program and for the athletic department. I couldn’t be happier with him leading our program into the next decade,” said Hutchinson.

“I am proud and thankful that (University President) Dr. (Wayne) Andrews and Brian Hutchinson have entrusted me with the opportunity to represent Morehead State as its volleyball coach. I am committed to their model of striving for academic and athletic excellence. We have an amazing staff, and a tremendously talented group of student-athletes that I look forward to working with in the years to come,” said Gordon, who is entering his eighth season at MSU.

Gordon came to MSU from the University of Kentucky in 2003 and immediately made an impact. He was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year and led the Eagles to a 21-11 record and the OVC regular season championship. He has produced five 20-win seasons in his tenure, including four straight currently, and has also led MSU to OVC titles in 2007 and 2008.

Gordon enters the 2010 season with a 124-100 overall record at MSU, including a 65-44 OVC mark. Adding in his three years leading a highly successful program at West Virginia Wesleyan and Gordon’s career collegiate coaching record stands at 204-127 – a 61 percent victory total.

In addition to his players’ success on the court, he has led a first-class program in academics as well. His teams have won three consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Awards and numerous American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Awards. His players have also earned 12 OVC Medals of Honor since 2003.

Under Gordon, 20 student-athletes have been named All-OVC and two have been named OVC Freshman of the Year. He has also guided one player who was named AVCA All-Region as just the second player in school history to earn that distinction. The 2008 team was named a Deep Digging Club by the AVCA.
