MOREHEAD, Ky. – Victoria Cran, a transfer from Tennessee Tech, has joined the Morehead State women’s tennis program, coach Kevin Fulton announced this week. Cran will enroll at MSU and join the team in August.
Cran, a native of Yorkshire, England, will be a sophomore and have three years of collegiate eligibility remaining. Tennessee Tech athletics announced in April it is restructuring its athletic department and suspending the sports of rifle and women’s tennis.
“I feel picking up a player of Victoria’s caliber makes us a very dangerous team. She plays with great patience and likes to attack the net. Her willingness to stay on the court all day makes her a very tough opponent, which was evident with her conference record,” said Fulton. “After getting to know her through the recruiting process I feel she will make an even more positive addition off the court as well. She sought us out as she feels - as the rest of the team - that we have a great opportunity this upcoming year to do some great things here.”
Cran led the Golden Eagles with a 14-7 singles record in 2009-10, including a team best 6-3 Ohio Valley Conference mark. She tallied an 8-5 record in dual matches and was 6-2 in fall tournaments. She advanced to the finals of the Virginia Tech Hokie Invitational. In doubles, Cran played number one for the TTU squad and was 8-10 during the year.
“I am very excited to be joining the Morehead State team and the prospect of playing another year in the OVC for a team that has a great chance of taking the conference this year,” she said.
Cran attended Repton High School in Deryshire, England On her high school team she played number one her final year and was the team captain from 2007-09. Her team competed and won the National Schools Championship in 2005 and was runners-up in 2003 and in 2006. They also represented the United Kingdom in the World Schools Championship where they won the bronze medal.
