MOREHEAD, Ky. –
Morehead State heads into the final weekend of the regular season with a berth into the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament on the line. MSU (24-22-1, 6-9-1 OVC) will face off against Jacksonville State (26-24, 12-8) needing to win two out of three to improve their chances of making the conference tournament. A series sweep guarantees the Eagles a spot while one out of three will mean MSU will need some help from other teams in the league.

The series begins with a double header on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Allen Field and concludes Saturday with a game at 1:00 p.m. Saturday’s game will mark the final game at Allen Field for six MSU seniors. All three games are scheduled to be internet-only broadcasts of the Eagle Sports Network.

MSU is coming off a rain-shortened weekend at Murray State where they dropped the first contest of the series before coming back to tie game two in the top of the seventh before the game was called due to rain. Both the conclusion of Saturday’s second game and Sunday’s game were rained out.

Jacksonville State will be making their second straight trip to Kentucky after winning two out of three at Eastern Kentucky last weekend. The Gamecocks will be playing with a chance to win the OVC regular season crown should other games in the conference fall their way.
JSU is led by Todd Cunningham and Bert Smith, who are both hitting over .350 on the season.

Andrew Edge and Sam Eberle each have hit 10-plus home runs this season with Edge being the team leader in RBIs with 58. Hunter Rivers (3-3, 7.01 era), Austin Lucas (4-0, 5.48), Aaron Elias (1-1, 6.46) will comprise the Gamecock’s rotation this weekend. Alex Jones (1-6, 4.01) and Todd Hornsby (3-1, 5.23) key the JSU bullpen

MSU is led by the senior tandem of Drew Lee and #J.D. Ashbrook#. Both are hitting over .420 this season with Ashbrook the team leader in runs and home runs, while Lee leads the club in RBIs and hits. Taylor Davis has also been swinging a hot bat in OVC games as he ranks in the top three in the conference in batting average, slugging, and on-base percentage in conference only contests. Michael Bottoms (4-4, 6.85) and Matthew Robertson (1-4, 8.32) will get the nod in Friday’s double header with Saturday’s starter to be determined later. Hunter Hewitt (0-0, 7.40) and Josh Schneider (7-4, 6.49) lead the MSU relief corps.

Should MSU earn a spot, the OVC tournament begins Wednesday at Pringles Park in Jackson, Tenn.
