Men's Basketball Graduates Three Seniors

MOREHEAD, Ky.--Three seniors on the Morehead State men’s Basketball team, were among over 1,000 MSU students who graduated on Saturday, May 8. Maze Stallworth, Brandon Shingles and Les Simmons all received their diplomas in the ceremony.

“We are extremely proud of Maze, Brandon and Les” said coach Donnie Tyndall. “These three seniors embody what Morehead State Basketball is all about. Here is a group of young men who brought great energy, toughness, and work ethic everyday to not only basketball but also their school work. These three have played a huge role in the success of our program, and we wish them nothing but the best as they move on with their careers”

Stallworth, of Elizabetown, Ky., Shingles, of Albany, Ga., and Simmons of Mountainville, N.Y. all received their Bachelor of Science Degrees in University Studies. This makes seven of the eight seniors to have graduated during Tyndall’s four years at MSU.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
