Women's Tennis Flies Past Tennessee Tech 5-2

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State women’s tennis team picked up its sixth Ohio Valley Conference win this season with a 5-2 victory over Tennessee Tech Tuesday afternoon at the Sadler Tennis Courts. The Eagles are now 9-12 on the season and have a 6-2 OVC mark.

The Eagles swept all three doubles matches and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the match. At number one doubles Madeleinne Antero and Lauren Delaney won 8-6 over Victoria Cran and Frederike Kahl. In the two spot Alix Young and Alexandra Rydberg got a 8-2 victory and in the three spot Alix Lakow and Kayla Tuscany defeated Joanna Corkern and Katie Barnhill 8-2.

"I really liked the way we played today, the girls did a great job in doubles, and I was proud of their overall performance."  said head coach Kevin Fulton. "I was glad to see Alix Lakow play well in her final home match of her career, I am really proud of her and appreciate all she has done for this program."

The Eagles continued their strong play in the singles matches, winning four of six. Young notched a 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 win at number one, and in the two spot Rydberg beat Kahl 6-1, 6-2. MSU also got victories in the fourth and sixth spots by Antero and Helms. The Golden Eagles got two wins in the three and five spots as Tuscany was defeated 6-4, 6-2 and Delaney fell 6-4, 6-3 to Corkern.

The Eagles will return to action on April 11 at Jacksonville State.

Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
