Men's Tennis Downed 6-1 By Tennessee Tech

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s tennis team won two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead, but couldn’t hang on to the lead and fell to Tennessee Teach 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the Sadler Tennis Courts. The Eagles are now 10-7 overall on the season with a 4-2 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play.

The Eagles notched a victory at number two doubles when Bradley Bryan and Lovell Medcalf won a thrilling match 9-8 (8-6) over Pachon and Santa Ruize. In the three spot Nathan Blum and Nathan Martin bested Chen and Harris 8-4. Greg Anderson and Jerry Sundgren came up short at number one doubles when they fell to Girling and Stafford 9-8 (8-6).

The Eagles struggled in the singles, as Tennessee Tech was able to win every match. Sundgren lost 6-4, 6-4 to Chen at number one and in the two spot Anderson was bested by Girling 6-2, 6-2. Bryan fell in the three spot to Stafford 7-6 (6), 6-1 and Blum was beat by Kirstein at number four 6-4, 6-3. Dusan Milovanovic lost 6-3, 6-2 and rounding it out for the Eagles was Martin who came up short of Pachon 6-3, 6-4 in the sixth spot.

The Eagles will return to action on April 11 at Jacksonville State University.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
