Women's Tennis Falls 6-1 To Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Morehead State women’s tennis team couldn’t keep pace with Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay and lost 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Austin Peay Tennis Courts. The Eagles now sit at 8-12 on the season with a 5-2 OVC mark.

The Eagles lost two of three matches in the doubles and Austin Peay took an early 1-0 lead in the match. The lone doubles win for MSU came in the three spot by Alix Lakow and Kayla Tuscany as they won 8-5. At number one Madeleinne Antero and Lauren Delaney fell to Vanja Tomic and Mariana Pagan 8-2 and in the two spot Alix Young and Alexandra Rydberg lost 8-0.

The Eagles struggled in singles only gathering one win, which came in the four spot as Tuscany beat Liew 7-5, 3-6, retired. At number one Rydberg lost 7-5, 6-2 to Tomic and at number two Young lost 6-0, 6-2. In the three spot Antero was bested by Pagan 6-2, 6-2 and at number five Delaney was beat 6-2, 6-2. Rounding it out for the Eagles was Brooke Helms who was defeated 6-0, 6-2 by Yuki Nakamura.

The Eagles will be back in action at home against Tennessee Tech on April 6, match time starts at 2:00 p.m.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
