COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Morehead State dropped a twinbill to Tennessee Tech Sunday afternoon. MSU dropped the first game 5-3 before falling behind early in game two and eventually losing 12-4.
Game One Recap
Cameron Flynn drove in all three Morehead State runs and Lee Henry struck out seven as Tennessee Tech defeated MSU 5-3 in game one on Sunday. TTU’s Ben Burgess went yard twice, both two-run bombs, to lead the Golden Eagles.
MSU got on the board first when
Drew Lee singled up the middle and was then driven in by a Flynn single.
TTU answered quickly with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Chad Oberacker singled up the middle to drive in Austin Wolf. Burgess then hit the first of his two home runs, taking MSU starter
Michael Bottoms deep to center field to give TTU a 3-1 lead after one.
The Eagles threatened in both the third and the fourth. MSU had runners on second and third in the third and the bases loaded in the fourth but were unable to plate a run. MSU would strand ten runners in the contest.
MSU would tie up the contest in the top of the fifth on Flynn’s 13th home run of the season. The blast drove in
Michael Fear after he had drawn a walk.
Burgess’s second homer of the game would give TTU a 5-3 lead. The blast came after Oberacker had singled up the middle, ending Bottoms day.
Trey Smith then came in from the bullpen and gave up the homer to Burgess.
MSU would put two runners on in the top of the seventh before TTU closer Stephen Pryor came in and got
Andrew Deeds swinging to end the game.
Lee went 3-for-4 to go along with Flynn’s three RBIs to lead MSU. Bottoms allowed four runs in 4.2 innings in taking the loss.
