Women's Golf Places Third At Rain-Shortened OVC Championship

DICKSON, Tenn. – Stormy weather forced the cancellation of the final nine holes of the Ohio Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship, leaving Friday's completed 45 holes as the tournament's final results and leaving Morehead State in third place.

Teams started Saturday’s round at 8:00 a.m. but were pulled off the course at 9:50 a.m. due to storms moving through the area. At 12:30 p.m. it was announced that play would be unable to be continued. The championship concludes with 45 official holes having been completed.

The Eagles finished with a 759 (304-305-150). Murray State won with a 747 (306-298-143) and Jacksonville State placed second at 752 (304-294-154).

Marisa Kamelgarn led the Eagles with a 187 (73-78-36). The OVC Freshman of the Year led teammate Emma Jonsson by one stroke, placing Jonsson tied for seventh overall with a 188 (75-76-37). Paige Lausier and Darlene Bognot each have a 195 to tie for 16th overall. Lausier shot a 77-76-42 through the 45 holes and Bognot carded a 79-75-41. Ashley Redmond tied for 20th with a 198 (79-83-36).

Austin Peay placed fourth with a 769 and Eastern Kentucky was fifth at 778. Eastern Illinois carded a 797 to place sixth and Tennessee Tech’s 807 placed the Golden Eagles seventh. Tennessee State rounded out the field with a 957. Austin Peay’s Chelsea Harris won medalist honors with a 180

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
