Two Eagle Tennis Players Honored With All-Conference Awards

2010 OVC All-Conference Selections

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Morehead State tennis players Madeleinne Antero and Nathan Martin were named to the 2010 Ohio Valley All-Conference team. Antero and Martin were both honored with second team selections for their efforts and play this season. The OVC all-conference selections were announced today by the conference office.

Antero finished with an 11-16 overall record, but had an impressive 6-3 conference record and played strong at number four singles to close out the regular season. She was teamed up with fellow teammate Lauren Delaney for most of the year at number one doubles where they went 6-3 in OVC play as well.

Martin finished with an overall record of 13-5, and was 5-2 in OVC action. Martin was 3-1 in the fourth spot, 6-2 in fifth spot and 4-2 in the sixth spot in singles action. Martin was teamed up with teammate Nathan Blum in number three doubles where they went 10-6 overall.

“This honor shows how hard they worked this season and prepared for conference this year. Both of them are very deserving, and I am looking forward to seeing them compete in their first conference tournament.” said Head Coach Kevin Fulton.

Austin Peay’s Vanja Tomic was selected as the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year while Eastern Kentucky’s Alex Das was tabbed the OVC Men’s Tennis Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches. APSU’s Carolin Weikard and Tennessee Tech’s Nick Stafford were named OVC Men’s and Women’s Freshman of the Year, respectively. Austin Peay’s Malik Tabet and Jacksonville State’s Steve Bailey shared women’s Coach of the Year honors while Eastern Kentucky’s Rob Oertel earned the men’s Coach of the Year award.

Both Morehead State tennis teams will be in Paducah, Ky., tomorrow Friday April 16 for the first round of the 2010 OVC Tennis Tournament. On the women’s side, the No. 4 seed Eagles will face No. 5 seed EKU at 3:00 p.m. ET., and on the men’s side, the No. 4 seed Eagles will face No. 5 seed Austin Peay at 11:00 a.m. ET.
