Kamelgarn Tabbed OVC Golfer of the Week

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Morehead State freshman Marisa Kamelgarn earned her third Golfer of the Week Award from the Ohio Valley Conference the league announced on Wednesday.

Kamelgarn, a native of Mahopac, N.Y. shot a final round 72 (even par) to rocket from 12th place to second overall at last week’s EKU Lady Colonel Classic in Richmond, Ky. After rounds of 75-76-72, Kamelgarn finished the event at 223 (+7), which was just one stroke behind the individual medalist. The finish helped Morehead State to the tournament championship, four strokes ahead of second place in the field of 17 total teams. It was the third team title for the Eagles this season. Entering next week’s OVC Championship, Kamelgarn leads the OVC with a 75.9 stroke average.

It marks the second straight week a MSU women’s golfer has earned the weekly award. Emma Jonsson earned the award last week. Kamelgarn also was named OVC Golfer of the Week twice in the fall.
Morehead State will next play in the OVC Championship April 22-24.

Ty Proffitt
Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
