OXFORD, Ohio – The Eagles track and field team competed in Oxford, Ohio over the weekend in the Miami (OH) Invitational. JT Stone led the way with an outstanding performance in the throws. Stone extended his school record in the hammer throw with a new personal best of 45.84 meters and then on Saturday recorded a new personal best in the shot put with a heave of 16.10 meters, which was good for a third place finish.

Stone’s recent marks currently sit him at fourth in hammer throw and sixth in the discus throw in the Ohio Valley Conference.

"This meet was important for JT to set himself up to be successful at the OVC Championships in a couple of weeks. His marks today do that, his shot put mark currently places him 3rd in the conference ranking.” said Head Coach Tommy Barksdale “If he continues to work hard good things will happen for him and our team.”

On the men’s side the Eagles had a strong performance by Adam Pettyjohn who finished in eighth place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.55. The 4X400 meter relay team also notched two points for the Eagles with a 10th place finish crossing the tape in 3:44.47. Michael Wright recorded a personal best toss of 29.58 meters in the hammer throw and Josh Wakeman finished 13th in the 5,000 meter run recording a time of 15:12.23.

On the women's side, the Eagles were led by and outstanding performance from Liz Braunwart who recorded a new personal best in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:45.30, shaving off 10 seconds. Holly Mandzak finished right behind Braunwart in a time of 19:58.92 in the same event. Marybeth Harmon once again improved from the week before with a new personal best in the shot put recording a chuck of 9.36 meters. Alexis King ran well in the 3,000 meter steeplechase finishing 12th in a time of 12:20.34 and Linda Dixon, who also is a member of the Eagle basketball team, did well in the triple jump leaping 9.88 meters for a 12th place finish.

"We carried our competitive spirit from the Centre College meet last week to this week and once again left everything we had out on the track. We are getting better each week and at the right time.” said Coach Barksdale “If we can continue to keep it up, we are setting ourselves up to be successful at conference, which is our ultimate goal."

The Eagle tracksters have short week, as they travel to in-state and OVC rival Eastern Kentucky on Friday April 16 for the EKU Open. The meet should be a strong preview of the conference championships which start April 30 in Cookeville, Tenn.
