Women's Tennis Is Topped By Mountaineers 6-1

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Morehead State women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the West Virginia Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon at the Wellness Center Indoor Courts. The Eagles now have a record of 2-8.

The Mountaineers swept the Eagles in the doubles matches and took an early match lead 1-0. In the one spot Madeleinne Antero and Lauren Delaney battled hard, but eventually bowed 8-6. Brooke Helms and Alexandra Rydberg were defeated 8-4 by Cardenas and Mathis at number two. The twosome of Kayla Tuscany and Alix Young came up short 8-3 in the three spot.

In singles action MSU’s Young was the only Eagle who gathered a victory, playing in the two spot she defeated Burton 6-3, 6-3. Rydberg fell at the number one spot 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in a tough match. Antero who played in the three spot was downed by Cardenas 6-1, 6-3. Tuscany was in the four spot, but was defeated by Haught 6-2, 6-4. At number five Catherine Butts lost 6-0, 6-0 to Mathis and in the sixth spot Helms came up short of Pilsbury 8-2.

The Eagles will be back in action March 15 in Orlando, Fla. against Florida Gulf Coast University at 1:00 p.m.
