Men's Tennis Can't Overcome #43 Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Morehead State men’s tennis dropped a 6-1 decision against the 43rd ranked Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers won five out of the six singles matches on route to the victory.

MSU fell behind early in the match 1-0 after getting swept in the doubles matches. At number one, the twosome of Greg Anderson and Jerry Sundgren were defeated 8-6. Bradley Bryan and Lovell Metcalf were beat 8-0 by the Hoosier pair of Jeremy Langer and Santiago Gruter. Nathan Martin and Nathan Blum also went down 8-4.

The Hoosier’s picked up wins in every singles match, except at number three. Sundgren won in a battle 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) over Josh MacTaggart. Sundgren won both of his singles matches over the weekend. Anderson couldn’t overcome Gruter and lost 6-0, 6-2 and at the two spot Bryan was beat by Langer 6-0, 6-2. Dusan Milovanovic was bested by Isade Juneau 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth spot and at number five Martin fell 6-2, 6-0. Blum fought Vogl but came up short 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth position.

Morehead State is now 5-4 on the season and will be in action again on March 16 in Orlando, Fla. against Jacksonville University.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
