MOREHEAD, Ky. - A berth in the Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball tournament championship game will be up for grabs Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. EST when the second seeded Morehead State Eagles battle the third seeded Austin Peay Lady Govs in Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
The game can heard live on the Eagle Sports Network with Matt Andrews and Tanner Hesterberg. The semifinal games and Saturday's 4 p.m. EST championship game will be shown live on Wazoo Sports Network as well.
The Eagles will be making their first appearance in the OVC Tournament semifinals since the 2005-06 season. MSU advanced to Nashville via its 95-90 victory over seventh seed Murray State Tuesday. Since 2002-03, this will mark just MSU's third trip to Nashville for the final four of the event.
MSU set the school record for wins in a season with its 22nd Tuesday. The Eagles are 22-9 on the year and finished 14-4 in the OVC, also setting the school record for conference wins in a season and conference winning percentage. Head coach Mike Bradbury won his 50th career game Tuesday as well.
Junior guard Chynna Bozeman was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year as well as First-Team All-OVC.
The Lady Govs are 13-17 overall and finished 11-7 in the league. Two of those losses came at the hands of MSU. The Eagles beat APSU 79-56 in Morehead on Jan. 2 and handed the host Lady Govs an 88-68 defeat on Jan. 31 in Clarksville. Bozeman tied the MSU single game record with nine three-pointers and had a then-career high 37 points in that contest. She has averged 30.5 points per game in the two games against AP.
The Lady Govs are led by First-Team All-OVC pick Ashley Herring and Second-Team selection Jasmine Rayner.
Last season, Austin Peay beat the Eagles three times, including the OVC Tournament first round game in Morehead. They went on to to win the tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament.
The Eagles are striving to win the tournament and make an appearance in their first-ever NCAA Tournament.
