Men's Tennis Drops A Tough Decision At EKU 7-0

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Morehead State men’s tennis team couldn’t overcome a tough Eastern Kentucky squad and dropped a 7-0 decision at Higgins Tennis Courts, Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles are now 9-6 overall and 3-1 in OVC play.

The Colonels swept the Eagles in doubles play, getting the early 1-0 lead. At number one Greg Anderson and Jerry Sundgren lost 5-2 in a DNF. At number two Bradley Bryan and Lovell Medcalf fell 8-0 and at the three spot Nathan Blum and Nathan Martin came up short 8-3.

In singles action EKU was able to take every match from the Eagles. At number one Sundgren lost a hard found match to Alex Das 4-6, 6-3 (10-8) and at number two Anderson was beat by Schroeder 6-3, 6-3. In the three spot Bryan lost 6-3, 6-0 and at number four Blum was defeated 6-2, 6-4. In the fifth position Dusan Milovanovic fell 7-6, 6-2 and to round it out for the Eagles Martin was beat by Carles Pon 6-2, 7-5.

The Eagles will be in action again on April 3 at Austin Peay State University, first serve is at 1:30 p.m.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
