MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State softball Eagles will head to Cape Girardeau, Mo., this weekend to face the Southeast Missouri Redhawks on opening weekend of Ohio Valley Conference action. Game times are set for a 2 p.m. EDT doubleheader Saturday and a single game Sunday at 2 p.m EDT.
The Eagles head into conference play with a 7-11 record. MSU has won four oif its last six games. Freshman first baseman
Amber Riddle leads the Eagles with a .33 batting average, while junior third baseman
Rebecca Butler tops the Eagles with four home runs. The pitching staff is led by senior
Sarah Funston who is 5-3 with a 2.55 ERA. Senior
Alex Gjevre has been on the short end of several close games and leads the Eagles with 68 strikeouts in 63 innings.
Southeast Missouri is 9-12 overall. The Redhawks are 3-1 at their own Southeast Softball Complex this year. Nicole Troncoso leads SEMO with a .382 batting average. As a team, the SEMO hitters average .268. Pitching-wise, Stefanie Barnes and Whitney DuPuis have split time but both hold an ERA of higher than 4.6.
The overall series is far in favor of SEMO. Since 1993, the Redhawks lead the Eagles 50-11. Last season, SEMO took two of three from MSU in the regular season and also won a game in the OVC Tournament.
