Softball Eagles Head North For Three-Game Series at Ohio

MOREHEAD, Ky. - The Morehead State softball team will head north to Athens, Ohio on Friday to get set for a three-game series at Ohio University. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start while Sunday's single game is set for noon.

The Eagles are 4-9 in 2010. Junior third baseman Rebecca Butler has been a bright spot on offense, hitting .308 with two home runs. Freshman infielder Amber Riddle leads the team in batting average at .320. She hit her first career home run on Wednesday.

The Bobcats are 4-13 in 2010. Shalene Petrich tops the team at the plate with a .345 batting average. Emily Wethington leads the pitching staff with a 2.88 ERA.

MSU leads the series with Ohio 4-3 after winning twice in 2009.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
