JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Morehead State men’s golf finished in eighth place in the Don Benbow Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at the Par 71, 6,504-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Course. It was the Eagles’ best finish of the spring season so far, shooting a 597 (301-296) in the two-day tournament.
Michael Brown’s tie for 16th place overall led MSU. Brown shot a 146 (72-74).
Jared Flanery was just three strokes and 10 places behind Brown, checking in at 149 (77-72).
Alex Wright and
Crit Reddick were separated by a single stroke. Wright carded a 154 (82-72), improving 10 strokes between rounds to finish strong and tie for 43rd overall. Reddick turned in a 155 (77-78) to finished tied for 46th.
Alex Misback trailed Reddick by a single stroke also. Misback tied for 29th with a 156 (75-81) to round out the Eagle scoring players.
Dean Schneider finished with a 158 (82-76) playing as an individual. He tied for 56th in the overall standings.
Laval, a Canadian school, won the 15-team tournament with a 573 (284-289) and were led by medalist Mathieu Gingras, who finished seven-under with a 135 (68-67), three strokes better than the next closest finisher. Morehead State was the only Ohio Valley Conference team in the event.
The Eagles will take time off for next week’s spring break before resuming play at the Grub Mart Intercollegiate in Gadsden, Ala.
