Men's Basketball Aims For Sweep Of Golden Eagles Saturday

MOREHEAD, Ky.--
Morehead State bounced back from the loss at Austin Peay with a 94-75 win over Jacksonville State on Thursday. The Eagles will be looking at turning the win into a two-game streak Saturday when they host Tennessee Tech at 8:07 in a regionally televised game.

Wazoo Sports will carry the broadcast of Saturday’s game, which is being sponsored by the Kentucky Army National Guard. The game is also a part of the MSU-EKU Challenge for change series. Fans are encouraged to bring canned food and clothing for donations. Fans will also have the opportunity to donate to Samaritan’s Feet via text messaging to help provides shoes to children in Haiti.

The Eagles (15-7; 10-2 OVC) won the first meeting between the two teams in Cookeville, 77-64. MSU rallied from a six-point halftime deficit and Kenneth Faried led four Eagles in double figures with 20 points and 14 rebounds . Elijah Muhammed led Tech with 16 points.

Morehead State’s Thursday win over Jacksonville State was the Eagles best offensive output of the year. Maze Stallworth scored a career-high 26 points and Brandon Shingles and Ty Proffitt combined for 13 assists. The Eagles, who also drilled 13 3-pointers, have won 12 of the last 13 games.

Tennessee Tech (12-11; 6-6 OVC) has won four of its last five, but lost at Eastern Kentucky on Thursday. Three players average double figures for the Golden Eagles, led by Kevin Murphy’s 15.2 points per game. Frank Davis tallies 14.3 points per game and Muhammmed averages 12 points per game. TTU doesn’t have a dominating rebounder, but ever player contributes, allowing the Golden Eagles to have a +0.5 rebounding advantage. Alfred Jones’ 5.4 rebounds per game lead TTU.

Morehead State leads the all-time series 69-61 and has won four straight over the Golden Eagles. TTU has not won in Morehead since the 2005-06 season.

After Saturday, MSU embarks on its final OVC road trip of the season, heading to Eastern Illinois on Thursday and SEMO on Saturday. The EIU game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
