CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.--Now in second place in all of Division I in active winning streaks and just one win shy of the school record for consecutive victories, Morehead State faces a tough test Saturday when the Eagles head to Austin Peay for the second meeting with a talented Governors team that took MSU to overtime in the first game of the month. Originally scheduled for Saturday, inclement weather has forced the game to be moved to Sunday at approximately 5 p.m. ET at the Dunn Center.
Morehead State has won 11 straight, just one behind Siena, but more importantly, the Eagles are one game ahead of OVC Preseason Co-favorite Murray State in winning streaks and half of a game behind the Racers in the OVC Standings. The Eagles must win Saturday to keep pace as the League race enters the final month of the regular season.
Junior
Kenneth Faried had one of his most complete games of the season, scoring 23 points and 21 rebounds at Tennessee State.
Maze Stallworth scored 19 and
Demonte Harper finished with 10 points. Stallworth was one rebound away from his second double-double this season as well. Faried, Harper and Stallworth maintained their lead among all MSU scorers with 16.9, 11.9, 11.6 points per game respectively.
The Governors have won two straight and three of the last four. They will be aim to take revenge on Morehead State, who has won the last two meetings (the ESPNU game to open January and the 2009 OVC Championship) in overtime. MSU won the overtime affair in January 68-65.
Austin Peay’s second leading scorer Anthony Campbell, who had missed a game because of injury, returned with a vengeance Thursday against EKU, scoring 19 points. Scoring leader Wes Channels had 24 points, sinking four 3-pointers versus the Colonels. APSU averages more points than the Eagles, scoring 73.2 points per game, but they allow almost as many points at 73.1 allowed per game.
After Saturday, the Eagles return to Johnson Arena Thursday for the home game versus Jacksonville State at 7:30 p.m.
