OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Morehead State baseball recruit Caden Cleveland was officially honored with the prestigious Ferguson Jenkins Outstanding Student-Athlete Award Tuesday night at the Warren Spahn Awards Gala. New York Yankee pitcher C.C. Sabathia was also honored at the event as he won the Warren Spahn Award for the third straight year.
The award is named after Hall of Fame baseball pitcher Ferguson Jenkins and is awarded to just 10 high school athletes each year. The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame Museum created the awards in 1999 to recognize Oklahoma’s best high school baseball and softball student athletes for their roles as citizens and successful athletes.
As a junior, Caden set a school record with a batting average of .541 which included a 30-game hit streak. His impressive season earned him DIAMOND BASEBALL All American First-Team honors as well as the opportunity to participate in the International Home Run Derby at Tropicana Field. He has been named to the Oklahoman Newspaper All-State Teams both his junior and his sophomore years. Cleveland hit .454 with 50 RBIs during his sophomore season.
