Faried Voted To Fourth OVC Player of the Week Award

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State junior forward Kenneth Faried earned his fourth Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball Player of the Week honor. It was also is the third time this January and the second consecutive week he’s earned the award.

Faried scored 20-plus points twice and pulled down 16 rebounds in two games last week to record two double-doubles. He led the Eagles to two victories, including one at arch-rival EKU, and extending their winning streak to 10 games. He scored 23 points and pulled down 16 rebounds against SIUE. He had four blocks and two steals versus the Cougars and shot 60 percent from the field. He scored 20 at EKU and pulled down another 16 rebounds. He shot 72.7 percent from the field and had two assists.

Morehead State travels to Tennessee Thursday to face Tennessee State in Nashville at 8:30 p.m. ET and Austin Peay on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
