Drew Lee Earns Second Preseason All-America Nod

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Morehead State senior shortstop Drew Lee earned his second preseason All-American honor when he was named 2010 Ping!Baseball Preseason Second Team All-America Monday.

The senior slugger was previously named to the Louisville Slugger Third Team All-America.

Lee was one of six Ohio Valley Conference players to receive Preseason All-America recognition. The other five OVC athletes were third team or honorable mention selections.

Lee is coming off a junior season in which he set the MSU record for hits (86), batted .413, belted 17 home runs, and drove in 67 runs. He led the OVC in total bases (159) and ranked in the top five in the OVC in homers, doubles, RBI and runs scored. Lee also earned second team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Lee and his Eagle teammates kick off the 2010 campaign with a four game series at Mercer February 19-21.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
