Baseball To Hold Annual Alumni Game In October

MOREHEAD, Ky.--Morehead State baseball will hold its annual alumni game the first weekend in October. Coach Jay Sorg, a MSU alum, is excited about the opportunity to welcome former players and other baseball alumni back to Allen Field.

“We have had great success with this event over the last two seasons. The weekend provides a tremendous opportunity for our players to further witness the great tradition and pride of the Morehead State Baseball Program," Sorg said. "We look forward to seeing and sharing with all who have allowed us the opportunity we have today. As an alum, I personally get extremely excited about this weekend to see my former players, teammates, and peers from prior generations.”

The schedule for alumni weekend is as follows:

Friday, October 2nd
• Alumni Batting Practice/Home-Run Derby 6:00 pm at Allen Field.

Saturday, October 3rd
• Tailgate for baseball alumni, guests, and current team members at Allen Field from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• Morehead State vs. Dayton football game at 1:00 p.m.
• Alumni game beginning at ~5:00 p.m. at Allen Field.
• Dinner following the Alumni Game in front of Allen Field.

Pepsi Athletes of the Week
Ty Proffitt
Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
