Kamelgarn's Top 10 Finish Earns OVC Golfer Of The Week Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--Morehead State freshman Marisa Kamelgarn, who tied for sixth in the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup, was named Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the week the League announced Wednesday.

A native of Mahopac, N.Y., Kamelgarn led the Eagles with a three-round total of 222 (+6) against an extremely competitive field. She fired rounds of 76-71-75 and jumped from eighth after the first two rounds to sixth in the final standings.

 Kamelgarn had the Morehead State low score in each round of the tournament as the Eagles finished ninth overall. She had four birdies in round two and nine for the entire tournament. Kamelgarn's 74.8 stroke averge after four rounds this fall is the tops in the OVC.

The Eagles, who improved in round three to finish ninth overall, will next play at the Cincinnati Fall Classic Sept. 28-29.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.
