Martin Leads Men's Tennis at Hoosier Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Morehead State freshman Nathan Martin won the consolation draw of the Crimson flight at the Hoosier Invitational last weekend and teamed with sophomore Nathan Blum to claim the back draw of the doubles flight.

Martin and Blum won a consolation flight for the second consecutive weekend. They opened with a 9-7 setback, but returned to win three straight matches to win the consolation draw. In the final match, they defeated Louisville duo Sumit Prakash-Gupta and Adam Donaldson 9-8 (4).

Martin dropped an opening round singles match, but he came back to win the next two and claim the back draw title in the crimson flight. He knockedoff Southern Illinois's Pavlo Buryi 7-5, 6-4 and then handed IUPUI's Joel Modesitt a 6-4, 6-4 loss.

Greg Anderson and Bradley Bryan also participated. Anderson won a singles match in the consolation round - 6-1, 7-5 over Phil Orno of Cleveland State.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
