MSU Women's Golf Improves To Ninth; Tunstig Shoots Hole-In-One

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky.—The Morehead State women’s golf team finished in ninth place at the Napa River Grill Cardinal Cup, which concluded Tuesday at Cardinal Club Golf Course. The Eagles shot a 936 (314-312-310). In the 54-hole, three-round tournament. MSU sophomore Karolina Tustig, playing as an individual, picked up an ace on hole No. 12.

Freshman Marisa Kamelgarn led the Eagles with a 222 (76-71-75) to tie for sixth place overall, jumping two spots after round one. Kamelgarn had the MSU low score in each of the three rounds.

Senior Darlene Bognot was second for MSU and tied for 40th overall with a 234 (80-77-77). Sophomore Emma Jonsson is tied for 47th overall and was third for the Eagles with a 237 (78-82-77). Junior Paige Lausier rounded out the scoring for Morehead State with a 246 (80-85-81) to place 69th overall. Junior Lynn Grunkemeyer was forced to withdraw from round three.

Tunstig finished with a 243 (82-82-79). Sophomore Emma Eksell also competed as an individual, tying for 27th overall with a 229 (76-75-78).

Host Louisville won the event with a 866 (289-286-291). Eastern Kentucky is the other OVC school at the event. The Colonels placed 11th with a 941 (321-312-308).

The Eagles will next play at the Cincinnati Women's Fall Classic on Sept. 28-29.

Women's Tennis
Junior women's tennis player Brooke Helms went undefeated in singles action over the weekend, as she tallied two individual match wins. 

Helms clinched the come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Big East power West Virginia, a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 at number five singles.  Helms then was only one of two Eagle netters to score a win in a 5-2 loss at Duquesne , winning 6-3, 6-4 at number five.

Men's Basketball
Men's Basketball senior Ty Proffitt recorded a team-high 18 points on 5-of-6 from the field, 4-of-5 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in Tuesday’s 75-69 victory over Norfolk State. 

He then registered a season-best 20 points on 6-of-10 from the floor, 4-of-7 from long range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe in Saturday’s 56-50 win over Tennessee Tech. 

The guard, who hails from London, Ky., connected on 69 percent from the field (11-of-16) and 67 percent from downtown (8-of-12) in addition to making all eight free-throw attempts.  He also committed just four turnovers in 65 minutes last week.

Proffitt was also named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for his performances this past week.
